Agricultural Emissions Conference 2026
We must ACT NOW or lose New Zealand’s advantage. Let’s protect what we love for generations to come.
These are the key messages from the Agricultural Emissions Conference 2026 (Tākina Events Centre, Wellington). My harvester, Jenny, and I spent two days capturing the industry's shift from volume to value.
A big shout out to the Ag Emissions Centre for working with us.
From Volume to Value
The "New Volatile World" requires a shift from efficiency to resilience. Low emissions are now a global quality marker. To stay competitive, we must move beyond "just in time" production and lead with high-value, low-footprint products.
Tech as the Tool, People as the Driver
While technology like methane inhibitors and genetics are "the unlock," the consensus was clear: Behavioural change is the real engine. We need:
- Credible Data: To back our claims with integrity.
- Affordable Solutions: Tech must pay for itself to be adopted.
- Urgency: The "present is messy," but we can't wait for perfection to act.
The Farmer at the Centre
Transition only works if we "put the farmer in the centre." We are moving from compulsion to collaboration. Leadership means asking the hard questions today to ensure an intergenerational legacy for tomorrow.
Accelerating into the 2030s
We have a choice: wait for regulation or "accelerate into the 2030s" by choice. By "stacking technologies" and sticking to long-term signals, we can prove our leadership on the world stage.
The bottom line? It is doable. We don't need to wait for permission to be the best farmers in the world.
